Anageria™ is the longevity-focused arm of the Micregen Secretomix® platform.

Micregen’s priority remains the clinical development of MRG1061 for Necrotising Enterocolitis (NEC), where inflammation, impaired cellular quality control (autophagy) and lost regenerative capacity (stem cell exhaustion) can destroy a premature baby’s intestine within days. The same failures are described within the recognised hallmarks of ageing, where they degrade adult tissue over decades rather than days.

Over ten years of preclinical research, Micregen has characterised how Secretomix® acts on those hallmarks, and on a fourth; cellular senescence which belongs specifically to ageing.

Micregen is now looking for the right partner to maximise this longevity opportunity.

How we got here

We proved the platform where the science was clearest and the need most urgent.

Anageria™ exists because Micregen chose to prove its platform where the science was clearest, the need most urgent, and the regulatory path fastest, in premature babies, not in ageing.

Ageing is not, in regulatory terms, a disease you can run a clinical trial against. There is no approved indication called “ageing”, and no fast-track pathway built for it. Necrotising Enterocolitis is. It is an orphan disease, has a defined regulatory route through the MHRA, and the clinical experts are already part of our team.

Secretomix® is a cell-free biologic therapeutic made from the signalling molecules stem cells release. The NEC programme is now advanced through preclinical development, sits on the UK’s fast-track regulatory pathway, and is at the point of manufacturing clinical-grade material for GLP safety and toxicology and its first trial in humans.

Cellular senescence compounds the picture specifically in the longevity context, where damaged cells accumulate rather than clear. This is a slower process, not characteristic of the acute injury seen in NEC. The underlying biology converges; the roles it plays differ by timescale.

Suppressed inflammation at its molecular source

The NF-κB signalling pathway is among the most significantly enriched pathways in the characterised cargo, and MRG1061 produced a dose-dependent reduction in TNFα in human immune cells, reaching 59 per cent at the highest dose tested and an accompanying reduction in NF-κB activity.

An emerging relevance to epigenetic ageing

The same molecular composition also gives the platform a further, emerging relevance to ageing biology. MicroRNAs are natural regulators of gene-expression programmes and can influence the epigenetic machinery that determines which genes are active in a cell. Secretomix® has not yet been shown directly to reset epigenetic age or modify epigenetic marks. However, its characterised cargo provides a clear and testable rationale for studying whether its regenerative and anti-inflammatory signals can also support healthier gene regulation in ageing tissues.

Beyond these mechanistic findings, Secretomix® is being tested directly in neurodegeneration models through an academic collaboration with the University of Bradford.

Why this is more than the sum of its parts

The ageing hallmarks do not operate in isolation. Chronic inflammation can accelerate cellular senescence, while senescent cells can perpetuate inflammatory signalling. Together these processes compromise the stem cell niche and impair autophagy, creating a self-reinforcing network of dysfunction.

By acting across inflammation, senescence, stem cell niche integrity and autophagy, Secretomix® is designed to interrupt multiple points within this network. We therefore hypothesise that its direct effects on these four ageing hallmarks may generate broader downstream benefits across the interconnected biological system, to aid healthy ageing.

This creates a potential complementary role alongside emerging approaches designed to rejuvenate cells directly through epigenetic reprogramming. Where those approaches seek to reset aspects of cellular age, a cell-free secretome may help support the surrounding tissue environment by reducing inflammatory signalling and promoting repair. This is a scientific hypothesis for dedicated study, not an established combination treatment.

Why we are not pursuing it ourselves

Our obligation is to the infants who have no treatment.

Micregen is a small biotech company with a clinical programme about to begin. Everything needed to manufacture clinical-grade material and enter first-in-human trials is in place. Our obligation is to the infants who have no treatment, and that is where our attention stays.

The longevity opportunity now deserves more than it can get as a secondary programme at Micregen. It needs a team whose attention is on ageing biology, and the capital to run dedicated ageing and age-related disease models, measure epigenetic and gene regulatory effects directly, and build the required development and regulatory strategy.

So we have named it, separated it, and are looking for a partner to take it on.
